Going batty!

To my dismay, I discovered that we had a bat in the house today. I was sitting on the couch with Reed and Cora and I kept hearing a little noise, but thought it was our neighbor tinkering around in his garage next door. Then I looked over and realized that the metal mesh curtain in our fireplace was moving. If we didn't have glass doors that had baby locks on them, I think I probably would have jumped out of my skin when I saw a bat climbing around.

Bob headed to the garage, put on three pairs of gloves (just to be safe?), and came back with a bucket and a record. Let the trapping begin! After much strategizing, we decided a smaller tupperware container might be easier to trap him and then we slid a thin, flexible plastic cutting mat underneath and then we slid the record under that. Phew!

Before the capture

We had no idea of what to do with him once we caught him, so Bob just took him a block away and release him in the parkway. Later we were told that we should have release him 4-5 miles away so he doesn't come back. Please let him be as traumatized by this experience as I have been so he doesn't want to come back. We still don't know how he got him since the damper was closed. Maybe I don't want to know.

Here's a video of the big release:
