When JcPenney Portrait sent me a coupon for birthday pictures for the kids and my friend Jen gave them some cute coordinating outfits, I took it as a sign and quickly scheduled a photo session in hopes of getting them back in time to gift them to all the fathers in my life-- Bob, my dad, and my father-in-law.
In order for this to be a surprise, I needed to get the kids ready and cooperative by myself. That is no small task. I also needed for Reed to keep a secret. He is notoriously bad at keeping secrets, but he tried REALLY hard this time. We took the photos the Monday before Father's Day so he had to keep the secret 6 days. That's about a year for a 4 year old. The closest he came to revealing the gift was on Saturday, the day before Father's Day, when Reed told Bob that his present was a surprise, but that it was something so that Bob wouldn't miss him when he goes to work. Sweet.
Here is the group shot that I never thought we'd get. Cora was very cooperative for about the first 2 minutes. Unfortunately, Kate was crying those 2 minutes. When Kate calmed down, Cora was through with the whole experience. I wanted to throw up my hands, say we tried, and just leave, but eventually we got this one. I think it turned out pretty cute.
The big 4-year-old Reed
The rambunctious 2-year-old Cora
The innocent 1-month-old Kate
Though it wasn't the smoothest experience taking three little ones to be photographed and getting them to smile and pose on cue, the photos are priceless and I am sure I will look back on them fondly. I will study their adorable faces and dream of these days and I won't even remember the crying, chasing, bargaining, bribing, and pleading that went along with them.
