Introducing Cora Maria

For as long as I feel like she was making me wait, once she made up her mind she was ready to come into the world, she wasn't fooling around. It was like she had an alarm clock set to her due date. It must have been set to midnight because by about 12:45 am I woke up and started thinking that maybe this time it was the real thing. After a little preparation around the house, a little timing contractions, and realizing they were becoming increasingly painful, we decided to call in the support staff across town, Grandma and Grandpa, who promptly came over to watch Reed so we could head up to the hospital. We were at the hospital by about 3 am and at 6:46 am, much to our surprise, our little daughter was born. A Mihelich girl...a feat once thought to be impossible :) We were all thrilled that she was as healthy and beautiful as could be!

So here she is:
Cora Maria Mihelich
June 3, 2010 - 6:46 AM
Sherman Hospital-Elgin, Illinois
7 lbs, 7 oz - 20 inches

The name- Cora Maria was named after her Great-Great Grandmother, Cora Maher, my mother's grandmother. Her middle name is for her Great Grandmother (Oma), Maria Jankovic, Bob's mother's mother. When we told Oma that we were pregnant again, her first response (after congratulations, of course) was that she was praying for a girl. Perhaps God pays special attention to the prayers of 90 year olds...at least I like to think so.

The proud daddy

The delighted mommy and big brother

Reed was absolutely adorable and sweet as could be when he came up to the hospital to meet his sister for the first time. He had spent the day with his Aunt Bekki and cousins and had been told about his new little sister Cora. After naptime time, Brian and Bekki brought him up to the hospital and apparently the whole car ride he was talking about Baby Cora/Sister Cora. They picked out a cute pink giraffe in the hospital gift shop and Reed couldn't have been prouder as he presented to Cora. He climbed up in the hospital bed, checked her out from head to toe, and then gave her a little kiss on the cheek. It couldn't have been sweeter. I guess we'll see how the sibling relationship goes moving forward, but it was truly a heartwarming experience for me.

Ready to head home and start our life as a family of four.
