Super fun weekend!

Reed had a really great weekend. The excitement began Saturday morning when he woke up to discover that we had house guests--Aunt Andrea, Uncle Nathan, and Nathan's girlfriend Casey! They had come up for a visit with us and a big Ikea run. So after a little catching up over breakfast, they headed out for their shopping day and we decided to venture out to the Elgin Public Works Open House.

Wow, that really sounds boring doesn't it...a public works open house?! We had been given a heads up from some other moms in the playgroup that this was a really fun event and used to be called something more exciting like "Touch-a-Truck" Day. It exceeded our expectations. What more does a two-year old boy want to do than hang out with garbage trucks, police cars, fire engines, street sweepers, snow plows, lawn mowers, cherry pickers, etc.? The Public Works facility was huge and everyone was great. They served free hot dogs, snow cones, cotton candy, and popcorn. Reed got his own plastic hard hat and lots of other goodies, including the most adorable pint-sized garbage and recycling cans that look just like the ones that Mom and Dad put out on the curb every week.

Hopefully his first and last time in the back seat of a police car.

Later on Reed got more of a chance to hang out with Andrea, Nathan, and Casey. Reed was having so much fun with them that by the time they took off this afternoon, he was ready to go with them. Hopefully they will be up for another visit soon!

It was great that Reed got so much attention this weekend. Potentially this is his last weekend as an only child. Who knows--there are still ten days until my due date. So far, I haven't been in any sort of rush to get the baby here, but today has been our first very warm day (around 90 degrees). We don't have central air conditioning and have yet to install the window units. If this weather continues, I feel my comfortable, and consequently my patience, will start to wane. I shouldn't complain though, because I have had a very comfortable pregnancy so far and that's probably not something a whole lot of 9 1/2 month pregnant ladies get to say.

Bob thankfully installed the air conditioning units yesterday afternoon. It was quite a relief. Maybe I will make it yet.
