Adventures in Babysitting

I captured this photo last night of Grandpa working hard at his babysitting gig. The question is who put who to sleep first. I guess they both have a favorite chair now. I also know who to call when Reed doesn't want to go down for his nap.

Seven months

It's crazy how fast 7 months can fly by and even crazier how fast a baby changes in that amount of time. Just a week or two ago I was blown away that when I went to check on Reed in his crib, he had pulled himself up to sitting by himself. Just this morning I peeked in his room and he was standing up in his crib. Good thing we lowered the mattress on Sunday!

We made it through our Thanksgiving plans with only a few problems. We had a good drive down to Greenville Thursday night and Friday we went to Daniken Tree Farm and cut down our Christmas tree. Hooray for the Christmas season! We were having a great time until that evening when Reed came down with a fever. He handled it well but it was obvious that he wasn't his normal chipper self. We took it easy and did a lot of relaxing before we headed back to the Chicagoland area on Sunday. Because Reed still wasn't feeling well and a snowstorm was coming we left early and unfortunately missed my mom's Thanksgiving meal for the extended family. Monday, we went to the doctor and found out that Reed has two ear infections. Poor boy :( This Thanksgiving I am also thankful for antibiotics.

Happy Thanksgiving!

It's hard to even begin to start the list of things that we are thankful for this year because the length is just so great. Reed is approaching 7 months old and gets more wonderful each day. Bob and I both have jobs and are enjoying them. We have wonderful, supportive families and friends. I don't think that we could ask for much more. Those are the things that we are most thankful for this Thanksgiving. I'm guessing if you are reading this blog then we are probably thankful for you too!

I'll try to post again next week with all our Turkey Break adventures. Today it's off to Grandma and Grandpa Mihelich's house and then we will take off for a long weekend in Greenville. Reed needs to show off his new moves (pulling himself to sitting, rocking on his hands and knees, dragging himself army crawl-style) and his second new tooth.

We hope everyone has a great holiday!

Pearly white siting

This photo does not clearly show off Reed's first new tooth, but here it is. It is trickier than one might imagine to get a photo in a baby's mouth...at least our baby. If you look closely you can see a little white bump coming through the bottom right of his gum. Luckily, the new tooth has not made him too irritable. He is drooling through bibs like crazy and his nose has been running, but overall he has been handling it like a champ. He is also enjoying his solid food more and more and his appetite seems to be growing fast. At this rate, he is going to need those teeth sooner than later.

Baptism

Sunday was a special day for Reed and his cousin Willa from Greenville, as they were baptized in a small ceremony together here in Elgin. All the immediate family was able to join us as the babies were blessed and welcomed into the church.

Reed and Willa behaved exceptionally well. You can tell that they both like their baths because neither fussed one bit when the water was poured over their heads. Thank you to all our family who shared in our special day.

The vote is in

Reed went to the polling place to witness his first vote today. I was trying to concentrate, but he kept trying to influence my vote. I think he was saying that he wanted change but then again maybe he just needed to be changed. You never know...it's hard to understand babies sometimes. But seriously, I do hope the next president will put us on the right path to make the future a little brighter for Reed's generation.

Happy Halloween

Friday night trick or treating at Grandma and Grandpa's house.
They loved seeing their little penguin grandson!

Saturday night we had some friends over for dinner and the kids dressed up one last time. The adorable little guys are Benjamin(chicken), Reed(penquin), Josiah(scarecrow), and Quinton(lion.)
